There’s one thing all collectors have in common, whether they specialize in coins, postage stamps, or any other items: the potential to make a hefty profit off their hobby. For those who enjoy collecting vintage basketball cards, it can be beneficial to do some research and find out which cards have particularly high values. If you started collecting before or during the 90s, see if you have any of these cards in your collection:
1980-81 Topps Larry Bird/Julius Irving/Magic Johnson
This is one of Topps’ series of threefold vintage cards, featuring three of the biggest NBA players of the early 80s. Ungraded versions of this card aren’t particularly valuable, usually selling at around $100 to $150. However, the highest-graded copies are sometimes worth up to an astounding $16,000.
1968-69 Topps Test #19 Jerry West
This card is part of an exceedingly rare set by Topps. Each one features a black-and-white photo of a different player striking a pose. Jerry West is a very popular player among basketball aficionados, so if you have this card, it might be easy to sell it at a sizable price. Furthermore, if you have the full Topps Test set in near-mint condition, you may be able to make a profit of over $30,000.
1969-70 Topps #25 Lew Alcindor (Rookie Card)
This is Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s very first NBA card—one that’s highly sought-after by long-time fans of the Milwaukee Bucks. If you have it in your collection, it’s a good idea to have it graded right away. In good condition, it’s a very valuable card that many collectors would be more than willing to add to their heap.
